Chat Mode (Bring Your Own Key)

Generate Figma designs from a chat inside the plugin with your own Anthropic, OpenAI or Google API key

Chat mode needs no MCP client and no local server. Pick Chat in the header selector, open Settings (the gear in the header), pick a provider — Anthropic, OpenAI or Google — paste your API key and choose a model. Then describe the design you want: the plugin sends your prompt straight from Figma to the provider, and renders the HTML the model returns as native Figma frames on your canvas.

  1. Open the ai.to.design plugin in Figma and pick Chat in the header selector.
  2. Open Settings (gear icon) and choose Anthropic, OpenAI or Google.
  3. Paste your API key and pick a model.
  4. Describe the design you want and send — the result is rendered on the canvas.

Tips

  • Your key is stored in Figma's plugin storage on your machine and is sent only to the provider you chose.
  • Usage is billed by your provider on your own account — ai.to.design adds no fees.
  • Use MCP mode instead when you want your coding agent (Claude Code, Cursor) to design from your codebase.
