move_node
Move a node to a different parent or position within the current Figma design.
Reparents a node to a different frame or group, or changes its position within its current parent. All properties and children of the moved node are preserved. Use get_selected_node first to discover valid parent and node IDs.
Parameters
| Name | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| nodeId | string | Required | The Figma node ID to move (from get_selected_node output) |
| targetParentId | string | Required | The target parent Figma node ID (must be a frame or group) |
| position | string | Optional | Insertion position within the target parent: 'first', 'last', or a sibling node ID Default: last. |
Example prompt
Try asking: Move the call-to-action button from the hero section into the navbar.
Tips
- The target parent must be a FRAME or GROUP — moving into a TEXT node will fail.
- Use position: 'first' to place the node at the top of the parent's child list.
- Moving a node between auto-layout frames may change its visual appearance.
